This watercolor was painted from a TV screen,
specifically the shipwreck scene from David Copperfield.
This original was used to produce two other former deviations:
A Sea Chantey and The Cat's Pajamas.
Anyway, this is the catalyst for those former pieces.

Watercolor on 140lb d'Arches paper with tiny amounts of gesso.

Yep. I grew it myself! THANK you so much for having
found my painting. I think I got rather lucky with that
water at the bow of the ship ~ it's all rather hit and miss!

THANKS AGAIN!

The watercolor 'Purists' WILL NOT use black. I say: HOGWASH. Just this AM,
I bought some very, VERY dark Indigo Blue and a tube of Chinese White. I think
for myself, and in that way, break from the crowd. That's essential, for me at least.
Yes, sometimes I dig deep into the pure color, with less water, and some colors
~still considered w/colors ~ have more 'body' to them. And they can be diluted.
I'm really not sure if I use less water in general...depends. Anyway, THANKS, glad
you like this!

Oh my goodness, this is amazing.

How do watercolor artists get such dark colors? Honestly, that is one of the main things I haven't understood. I get that you'd use less water, but it would still have a slight transparency to it, wouldn't it?
